# A blog is a record of a person thinking

A blog doesn't have to be a collection of finished opinions.

Some of the most interesting things to find on an old blog are the posts where someone was still working something out. An idea they changed their mind about. Something they were excited about for a while. A question they never quite answered.

That's part of what makes personal writing valuable. It records not just what you thought, but when you thought it.

Years later, a two-paragraph post about something completely ordinary can tell you more about a particular time in your life than a carefully written retrospective ever could.

You don't always know which things will matter later. That's a good reason to write them down now.
