There's something satisfying about having a little place on the internet that's entirely your own.
It doesn't have to be important. It doesn't need to attract thousands of visitors or serve a particular purpose. It can simply be somewhere you put things you like, things you've made, places you've been, or thoughts you've had.
Part of the fun is deciding how it looks. Choosing a typeface, moving things around, changing the colours, adding some strange little detail that nobody else would have thought to include. Unlike a social media profile, there's no template telling you what your page is supposed to look like.
And then there's the permanence of it. You can come back to something you wrote years ago and find a version of yourself you had forgotten about.
A personal website doesn't need to be ambitious. It can be small, imperfect and occasionally neglected.
That's rather the point. It's your little corner of the internet, and you get to decide what happens there.
